Wikispaces has given away 100,000 ad-free educational wikis, and we're going to celebrate their milestone and the general use of wikis in education by having founder Adam Frey and the Wikispaces team join us Thursday evening, September 11, 2008, for an open Classroom 2.0 discussion of wikis in education.

If you are using wikis in education, or you want to learn why you might consider doing so, please join us at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern / Midnight GMT in our Elluminate room: https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=1101&password=M.8DAFD346D.... We'll have lots of time for Q&A, which you are welcome to start here if you like.

If you haven't used Elluminate before,.you can use the following link to verify your system compatibility with their online meeting tool: http://www.elluminate.com/support/. If you are not in the US, here's a time-clock link: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=9&da...

This is a great way to celebrate Wikispaces great opportunity for teachers. Adam and his colleagues created a very user friendly wiki.

It is the one wiki that I was able to use right away, and I appreciate all the additions they have made over the past year. My wikispace, My Mind to Your Mind, is a work in progress, but it is a great resource for my professional development.

For those who would like to see just how far you can take a wiki, I would recommend Jokay's wiki. While she has some very elaborate wikis, this is a well developed wiki that uses the website type layout.
I definitely agree about the user-friendliness of wikispaces. My colleague and I have just set up a wiki for Y10 science. Before we built it he had never even heard of wikis, yet now he can drive it confidently.
Hi samccoy --
I plan to use my first wiki this year, so I like it that yours is a work in progress. And that last video with students stunned me, too. I think I'll have my GED students watch it and see what they think. Thanks for clueing me in on it! I'll be in the discussion Thursday night, and hope to meet you there.

Thanks for the links and archival information. I am looking forward to sharing this with other colleagues. I helped my dad(teaching science) sign up for wikispaces, and I want to help him put various class stuff on it. wikis are excellent tools.
I enjoyed the live presentation with Adam Frey and Sarah.
