School / Work Affiliation: Education Outreach Coordinator, Arkansas Science & Technology Authority

About Me: I've worked in public k-12 Education for over twenty years and just begun a new position with the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority. My past experience has included twelve years at the district level providing instructional technology development and training. My last position was Director of Instructional Technology for the Hot Springs School District.
In my present position I will be administrating three grant programs for STEM education. I've spent the last year learning and teaching Web 2.0 tools and I believe the magnitude of opportunities they will provide for all students is huge!

Hooray for Google Docs

I am obsessed with using Google Docs for collaboration and my daily work, but the greatest contribution made by Google Docs to K-12 education is the gift to all students of a suite of tools and space to save files. Many of our student don't have a personal home computer, but they do have access to someone else's. It may be at their grandparent's house, at the public library, at the Boys' Club, or at the after hour school computer lab. Students no longer have to carry a flash drive or worry… Continue

To all my new Classroom 2.0 friends (most of whom chose me as a friend in a workshop) I welcome your participation in this network. I hope to be a better contributor in the coming months.

NECC was great. I think my favorite part is talking to other attendees and learning what is happening in other schools. I left San Antonio a little overwhelmed, but ready to start another school year with fresh ideas. I'm still convinced that web2.0 tools will greatly impact learning.

Hot Springs Technology Institute NEXT WEEK!

We are very busy getting ready for next week's Hot Springs Technology Institute - better known to Arkansans as HSTI (pronounced Histeeee!) This is the state conference for K-12 education technology held at Hot Springs High School, Hot Springs, Arkansas. 1500 attendees will participate in two days of workshops and two days of regular conference sessions. Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal.
