- I am a former middle school English / language arts teacher who is currently Department Chair of Teacher education and professor of literacy courses. I am also President-elect of the Illinois Reading Council, and in that capacity, I am responsible for putting together the spring conference in 2011. We have terrific authors and speakers lined up! The theme of this conference is Literacy Outside the Box - as an indication of that, we will have smartboards at the conference for the first time. As another indication, we have Barry Lane doing his literacy cabaret. I've challenged myself to read every book by every author who is coming to the conference, and I am blogging about it at literacyoutsidethebox.blogspot.com. I love reading and writing and exploring new literacies.
