About Me
After growing up in Maui and getting my degree and teaching credential in San Diego; I began my career as an elementary classroom teacher. For the past ten years, I have been working at a charter school in California, serving students in grades K-12. Lifelong learning and innovative teaching are my passion! I love seeing how creativity, technology, and forward-thinking can combine to engage students and help them on the path of lifelong learning.

I am interested in technology tools that facilitate collaboration, communication and creativity.

My other interests are: cooking, travel (especially anywhere near the beach), concerts, NFL, photography, writing, blogging, networking, and Starbucks!

If you want to connect, share ideas, make a friendly football bet, or collaborate on a project, you can find me at:

http://lifelonglearning20.edublogs.org and my Networks: Classroom 2.0, ISTE, CUE, The Future of Education, LearnCentral, Ning in Education, and ISTE.

Hi Donelle, saw that you are in Rocklin where the 49ers practiced years ago. My name is Leon Avrech, San Jose CA and a 49er fan, not too many miles from their new practice hdqs in Santa Clara. I wanted to share with you that I recently had a book published that I hope you will tell new teachers about and those planning to be teachers. The title is,THINK YOU CAN TEACH? A SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS. It is available from xlibris.com, amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com I am retired after 37 yrs in middle school as teacher, vp, principal and mentor teacher. I had a passion for teaching my 8th grade U.S History classes. The book begins with the first day on campus to the end of year evaluation.
Lesson plans, yard duty, parent conferences, are among the many topics covered.
Thank you.

Donnelle, are you using any video conferencing technologies at your school district? Check out www.appiavideo.com. Desktop PC based mulit point video conferencing. It is a new technology launch for us and since you are a technology evangelist I would like to hear your feedback. Feel free to contact me at mp@appiaservices to demo the service.

Hi Donelle,
I'm both a doc student in EdTech at the Univ. of Florida and a 4th grade teacher. I'm currently researching the explicit educational value of SNSs for elementary students and have just happened on elgg. I know Ning is a no-no for the <13 crowd, but hear that elgg might be somehow different. Do you have an opinion on what tools/services I should be looking at? Thanks, Josh

This will be my first trip to NECC, but I've attended other conferences in the past. My favorites are CUE (Computer Using Educators Conference, in Palm Springs), and the ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) conference I attended in Chicago. Good times and a wealth of learning opportunities.

Here are a few tips to share for your conference… Continue

If you are considering attending one of the Classroom 2.0 workshops in your area, this post will give you an idea about what it is like.

The first of the 2-day conference began with introductions and a few rules of the loosely structured format. Steve shared the "rule of two feet," commenting that anyone could get up and leave if this wasn't what they were looking for. The first day was interesting, but it was the afternoon session and… Continue
