Check out these various links at sites where I recently created accounts. You might find them helpful inside and outside of school. A couple of the sites will allow us to communicate on-line, as well.
www.delicious.com -- view a list of Web sites that I have used to help further develop my teaching materials; my username or account name is jrnowak14
An additional blog entitled CFHS Language Arts. This will be for my students in 2012-2013. Find the blog at http://cfhsenglish.blogspot.com/
I created a chat room at http://tinychat.com/jrnowak14. The chat room has the 'jrnowak14' title. Original, I know.
This is history-based, but I like this www.youtube.com link because it gives you an idea of how today's student processes information: visually and at a fast-paced. I feel we need to have the same type of approach. Search 'Wait for It...The Mongols!: Crash Course World History #17.'
From www.teachertube.com, check out 'We Didn't Start The Fire' under videos (near the top of the home page, it's a video that shows the power of music in helping bring education to life) and the 'Teen Summer Reading Booklist 2012' from docs. Finally, under channels, click on the high school-related videos. From there, click on 'Poetry Lesson' (it should be on the first page of links) and learn about a small-group project that really helps students not only learn about poetry's themes, symbols and depth, but also take ownership of their learning.
If you never have heard of setting up an RSS feed, take a few minutes to look at Google Reader (www.google.com/reader) or www.bloglines.com. As my graduate course instructor put it -- and I agree -- having this type of service is like one-stop shopping for the latest information in a variety of areas. For example, I have daily headlines sent to me directly pertaining to the latest stories in news, education and entertainment.
