Had a great class with year 5/6 using Cmap.

This an excellent tool for creating concept maps - we used it to introduce a unit on transport.

Formal Evaluation PD re: SurveyMonkey

Posted on October 11, 2010 at 7:30pm 0 Comments

We are always evaluating ourselves and our lessons, today's PD is about how I used SurveyMonkey to formally evaluate myself last term.

Examples of Informal evaluation

  • Lunch room discussions with teachers
  • When speaking with your students, as a whole class or individually

Why you use it:

This is often done as part of 'Formative Assessment' - to see how you or your students are going so that you can…

I have some email etiquette PD for todays staff meeting - for more information see http://www.learnthenet.com/learn-about/email-etiquette/index.php.

The main points about email etiquette is:

  • Clearly summarize your message in the subject line
  • Don't use the CC (Carbon Copy) function to copy your message to everyone…

Dropbox

If you edit the same files on several different computers you could make use of Dropbox. It gives 2 gig of file storage space for free - I doubt I will need a memory stick again. It runs on Windows, OSX and my Ipad with no problems.

My first WebQuest

Posted on May 31, 2010 at 1:30am 2 Comments

It's rough but nothing to be ashamed of - this is my first WebQuest.
It's an assessment item for my Masters at CSU...http://csusap.csu.edu.au/~joshea08/Asses6/WebquestHomePage.html

MakeAffinity

I had a chance to look around MakeAffinity. This is a service which allows your to link your pc to your Lego NXT (including webcam interface). This could be an interesting addition to my ECA next term. I'll have to get it running myself first....

International Schools IT Meeting 18/03/2010

It was a great opportunity to join the International Schools IT Meeting yesterday. Even though a lot of business was covered there were three impressive technologies I got out of the session.

Firstly there is 1st Class from Human Edge which AISS use for school administration. I also had a look at Moodle which is a learning management system. I will give it a go for my year 5/6 kids next term - However I don't think It'll work well for my younger kids. And finally there's Ncomputing which is a way to link many monitors and keyboards to a single PC. It's an excellent way to setup pods of computers for classrooms and libraries.

Below are some of the links from the Robofest 2010 conference

The NXT Classroom - A great robotics site with plenty of material for anybody into Lego Mindstorms

Mateaffinity - A great robotics webiste where you can see and share projects and ideas with other people around the world

Domabotics - Robotics site with some great links, books and building instructions

I was realy impressed with Dr Damien Kee's Presentation and Workshops during the conference. For somebody with a Doctorate in Robotics he was very clear and non-techy. He maintains the domabotics.com website...
