I am currently the Director of Professional Learning for Information Transport Solutions, Inc.
Prior to this I was an Instructional Technology Specialist with the State Department of Education's Technology in Motion program based at the Alabama State University Regional Education Inservice Center serving the central Alabama regional school systems, providing professional development for K-12 educators on how to utilize technology and effectively integrate it into teaching and learning strategies. I was also an adjunct instructor for the College of Education teaching a graduate technology course online.
Previously, I was a computer applications teacher and school technology coordinator at a middle magnet school in Montgomery. I taught 6-8th grade computer applications, wrote grants and technology plans, maintained and repaired computers, managed the network users, files and software, conducted professional development for teachers, etc.
In addition to a Masters of Arts in Education focusing on Curriculum and Technology from the University of Phoenix, I also hold several education-related certifications, including Intel Master Teacher and Senior Trainer, as well as EdTech Leaders Online Certified Online Course Facilitator. I have taught at numerous statewide conferences and facilitated online professional development courses for the state. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Public Administration, concentrating on marketing and minoring in communications, from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. This was only after I realized that computer engineering was not the career for me since I hated to write programming code. Needless to say, I know a little about a whole lot of stuff and a lot about very little. ;-)
I was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, but was raised in Montgomery. I graduated from the LAMP program when it was still at Sidney Lanier. I am now a mother of three beautiful children--Makayla is 13 and is in the 7th grade at magnet school where I used to teach, David is 7 and in the 2nd grade in magnet as well, while Timothy is 4 and still in pre-school. All my children love and use technology (they have their own computers, digital cameras, mp3 players, etc), but they also have other interests. We love the outdoors. We have 4 horses and 2 dogs. We all ride and my daughter is starting to show. She is also taking up the flute like her mother. All three love to draw and are very good at it. We are also athletic (or at least I used to be when I played volleyball). The kids have played soccer and gymnastics, as well as ballet and cheer for my daughter, and t-ball, basketball and football for the boys. I believe it is most important that they be well rounded people.
I hope this helps you to get to know me a little better. I believe that we have the most important profession in the world. I love and believe in what I do and what I teach. I believe in being a practical instructor and being a lifelong learner myself. I believe you can't give what you don't have, so I hope to instill that same passion in everyone I teach...

Thank you Shawndra! I'd love to get together with you sometime soon and "compare notes!" This week is challenging as I am facilitating PD sessions every day. But, perhaps later in the month? My office is in Montgomery!
