I operate a small tutoring company that focuses on Math and Science and have used Edmodo for about 3 years. I started using the application as a way students could send me comments or questions that may come up during school so I could help them right away instead of waiting for our next session.

I will post materials right after our sessions and always remind my kids to please send me messages if they have any questions on the material I provided or what they are covering in class but have not been able to achieve the level of engagement with my students that I was hoping for. If anyone could give me some ideas to get my students more engaged I would really appreciate it.

Well I use EDMODO and in the same way as you do ... more or less (I´m a teacher of English). What I also do is:

- tansfer students grades so they can check them any time and in this way I keep them "private" for each of them.

- assign homework and upload images / exercises which they complete without taking photocopies (we are trying to reduce the amount of paper we spend in our classes)

- make / send surveys for them to vote and auggest what they would like to include in the class (e.g. next class video ... and I post a selection )

- I create the type of activities that the app provides (i.e. multiple choices, T or F or short answer  questions) WHICH have automatic correction and immediate feedback for them and they can be transferred to their progress chart too.

- As a teacher I organise material in the "library" so I´m sure I´ll have everything at hand whenever I want (no more paper!!

Warm regards, Marisil

Well, i used Edmodo in my geography lessons. It is a learning platform which allows teachers and students to get connected in a safe social environment to collaborate; share digital content and access homework, grades, class discussions, etc. Students cannot send private messages to each other. Teachers maintain full control of their Edmodo groups and can delete posts, monitor all activity, review student posts before they go live. Assignments and quizzes are created by teachers. They can title their assignments, identify a due date and can track which students have turned in their assignments and comment on student work allowing students to receive immediate feedback.

I also used EDMODO as a tool for the assignments that required something to be submitted as a soft copy. But add I started using it, I realized it's power. I used it as a pre-lecture intro to prepare my students for the next topic. Students get active when they know that the next class would DEMAND that they had logged in to EDMODO account and read the latest info.
