Hi! I'm wondering what you guys see as the most essential computer skills or objectives for K-8 students. I've been asked to "brainstorm a new curriculum" (whatever that means) for computer classes. Thoughts are appreciated!
Our current curriculum consists of keyboarding (as much as I can get in), word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, powerpoint, and blogs in progression from grades 4-8. K-3 is mostly mostly educational titles with and intro. to keyboarding in the third grades. All off these are introductory level stuff. I have also introduced internet safety and research skills this year. If I saw my K-8 students more than once a week, I would add more web 2.0 stuff like del.icio.us bookmarking, bloglines (subscribing to blogs) and wikis.
