Hi there, 2nd year blogging and using technology in the classroom with my kids. We're looking for classrooms to blog with and perhaps work on some collaborative projects. Open for ideas on incorporating classroom 2.0 into our classroom. This year I will have about 35 grade 7 students and about 70 grade 8 students teaching them English, History and Geography.

Hello Mr d I am at about the same stage as you with blogging experience and web2.0 tool usage. My year 7s or 8s would love to collaborate with you, especially with blogging. However, I only have 18 year 7s and 25 year 8s. We are a small rural school in Australia, in Victoria on the south west coast. My blog is at http://murch.globalteacher.org.au and if you scroll down on the RHS are the links to techno7s and techno8s. These are the student blogs
I have 14 seventh graders in my advisory, and I would love for them to do some collaborative work with other students. One of my goals this year is to get the students thinking globally. What ideas do you have in mind? We blog, use voicethread, can use Skype. I'm open to anything!
Mr. D,

For blogging and incorporating web 2.0 into your classroom, you should take a look at Studeous (www.Studeous.com). Studeous lets you utilize the best web 2.0 tools for education by putting them all in one place and making them super easy to use. Studeous has everything from blogging and discussions to chat and text messaging. It's free and hosted, so you can be set up in no time. Check it out and see what you think.

Greetings,

Studeous.com looks promising. I just now created an account which I hope to begin using with my students. Anyone use else use Studeous?

Thanks,

I teach 8th grade language arts. I'd be willing to discuss some ideas with you. Let me know if you want to work together. Thanks, Bill.
Sorry, I sort of rushed my last reply. I teach 8th grade language arts in a small school in rural Pennsylvania. I have approximately 75 8th graders and would love to work on something with you. We are basically at the same stage as you are. I worked with the same group last year with wikis and blogs. I'd also be willing to set up some sort of video conferencing with your class via skype. Let me know what you think. Bill
Hi Everyone,

thanks for getting back to me. I'm pretty much up for anything. Last year I had approximately 80 grade 8 students and we hooked up with classes in New Zealand, Portugal and South Korea. Students were in touch with each other mainly through their blogs (we use classblogmeister.com .......my blog can be found at http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blogger_id=108026) and we even attempted a global project on wikispaces, where students were grouped together to write about their respective communities.

This year, I'll have the same number of students spread out over 3 classes, with one of them being a grade 7 class (11-13 years old), while the other 2 are grade 8 classes (12-14 years old).

I'm willing to take on anything from just getting students to comment on one anothers blogs to actually working together in virtual group settings. As I said, I'm pretty new to classroom 2.0 and am hoping to take a back seat in order to learn more.

If this interests you, get back to me, and I'll start off by putting a link to you classroom blog so that my kids can get to know yours.

Let me know what you think.
Take care.

Hi Manny,
I have 71 seventh grade English students in a small private school in St. Petersburg, FL. We have a class blog, Perspectives 08-09. Our school year has just started and we are discussing the summer reading novels. I'm open to anything as well. While I incorporate technology heavily into my curriculum, with the blogs, wiki, and voicethread, establishing a virtual community is something I haven't explored yet and would like to learn more about.
The virtual community is a wonderful connection to make. It adds so much more richness to the classroom, and both staff and students involved benefit greatly.
My students and I would really like working with yours. I have 18 yr 7s and 25 yr 8s. They love commenting on other student blogs and would be happy to share post prompts or whatever we could work out. My students are linked from my blog at http://murch.globalteacher.org.au and called techno7s and techno8s
Anne, how exactly is the virtual community set up? What kinds of things do the students do?
I downloaded a new Google tool called "Lively"...it's a social network in a virtual world, second life setting. Has anyone experimented with this? I'm wondering how we can use this with our students, is it even appropriate to allow them to use it in a school environment? If you could check it out, and let me (us) know what you think. Is it possible for our kids to get together in the google lively environment? How would it be moderated? Anyways, what do you guys think?

Thanks.

BTW.....my kids are loving the fact that others are reading their blogs and interacting. Great connections with students in Australia, the United States and New Zealand. Hoping to get other students from around the world to get in touch with my grade 7 and 8's.
