Hi! First off I would like to introduce myself, Lizzy Berryman; I am the new Teacher Center Director here at NewsHour Extra (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/). I’m excited to start another year with you and continue to provide high quality teaching tools designed to make NewsHour content useful and relevant to high-school aged students.

We are currently looking to revamp our site and really build a teacher community. Would you like to help us shape our features and offer suggestions? Would you like to participate in a discussion about a particular topic or a specific challenge? Would you like to write lesson plans and get paid for your work? Let me know! We are looking for all of this and we want to work with you.

We are also very excited about our recent site redesign. We now have daily weekday video blogs (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/video/blog/) that comes complete with summary, selected quotes, warm up and discussion questions. We are continuing to update our text features on our site as well and have 2 new featured stories each week about current events, arts and culture, and of course the election. We welcome you and your students to check out our Student Voices resources and to add your own comments to the rising tide.

With our redesign, we are continuing to build our online teacher network, which is YOU. This is a teacher community that thrives on your thoughts, suggestions and comments.
In friendship-
Lizzy

I hope you guys keep it up. I have been browsing though the site and I am very impressed. Easy starters for the day or discussion.

Is there possibly a way that we could embed the video into our blogs? This would be much easier for me to bring it up in class.
Hi David-

Good to hear from you.
We do have a daily video blog (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/video/blog/) that comes complete with summary, selected quotes, warm up and discussion questions. Do you use that in your classroom? Can you see using it? What could make it better for you?

I see that you have CNN. We also have an election site at http://www.pbs.org/newshour/vote2008/ that you may want to check out. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for your help.
Lizzy
I see the blog, but usually there are embedding codes to put the video on a separate blog, like how I did on my blog. That is what I am looking for. Right now it can be shared on things like facebook and digg only.

I do like the election site. The more I have available to me the better for my students.
Hi David-
You are right you can not embed our blog from our site but we also upload the videos to YouTube everyday and you can view them on the PBS channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/PBS). From there you can also click on the link to the blog to see the quotes, and questions.
Lizzy
Do you by chance upload to Teacher Tube? Our school does not block that.
