Avatar

Could anyone suggest some educational applications for avatars. Students seem to like them, so having them used on Wiki spaces would be fun but I would like some educational uses. Short book talks is one thing I thought of. Anything else?

I read a blog about a teacher who was using GoAnimate. The pupils can make animations about just about anything. I think he wrote about using it in history lessons, have them make short films about historic situations. I have not tried it myself, as I am not teaching at the moment, but it seems like a fun and interessting exercise.
