Online word processor

Hi,

I'm looking for an online word processor that I can use in my grade 5/6 classroom. I'd like to be able to create several student accounts with my own administrator account rather than create 28 separate accounts I have little control over. Anyone know of a web 2.0 tool I could use. I've looked at Adobe Buzzword, Google Docs and Zoho, but none of them allow me to create accounts within an account.

Hi Christopher,

How about Microsoft Office Live Workspace? I know that it isn't open source but the advantage is that you can set access levels on each document and send invites trough the students existing email accounts.

You might find Shutterborg useful. We created it to be extremely easy. There are no user accounts, but there's no need for them.

FYI - hosting services like www.siteground.com (that I use) offers something called Fantastico once you log in. This allowed me to install 3 instances of moodle, two trouble-ticket systems and a Wordpress instance in a matter of minutes. It also allows you to update them when those updates become available...priceless.

Hi Christopher. www.j2e.com lets you set up accounts within your account. It's designed for education. There is a small cost but we are very happy for you to trial it for (almost) as long as you wish. Only pay if you are truly delighted with it (we have a lot of schools that are).

Do you need a full-featured word procesor for this, or will a cut-down embedded one do the job? If the latter, you can create and control all the student accounts you need in Yacapaca, then assign writing tasks to your students. You will be able to see what they are writing at all times, and to comment on (and grade) their work. Actual setup will take you about 5 minutes, and it's free.
