I have used it as a way for students to research an explorer and present their findings. I had them research an explorer in a small group and prove the explorer's importance in history. They also had to map the the explorer's travels, create a timeline of the explorer's life, and provide background about their life. The kids really enjoyed it!
I've posted a model of how I used Jing in conjunction with Google Docs to assess students digitally. You can find a link on the New Literacies page at www.tomliamlynch.org. Hope it's of help.

Question...I know the pro version will allow you to convert the flas file to mpeg4 and that it's cheap, but does anyone know of a freeware that will do the same conversion and maintain the high quality?
Libraries are using it for reference and tutorial creation. What better way to show someone how to use a database when you are chatting with them than to just send them a link showing it to them. It beats writing the whole thing out and makes it easier for the patron too. In some cases the videos are embedded in webpages to show users how to use them.
