One of my friends is a teacher in an elementary self-contained class and we were discussing the potential of blogging with her students. The majority of her students have limited writing and reading skills and behavior can sometimes interfere with their success. I suggested that she use blogging as a motivator which will secretly help the students to improve their reading and writing skills. She could modify the task by allowing students to record themselves with microphones or digital recorders and upload the audio directly to the blog site. I feel it is inclusive to make this technology available to all students so they can make connections with other students around the world. Do you know of any other blogging self-contained classes that exist?

Hi Christine, I think this is a wonderful idea! I don't know of any other classes but I do know a of tool that would be great for this. Podcastpeople.com . When you sign up you get a blog with different design themes, which includes an online audio/video recorder, you can add multiple authors so it would definitely suit a classroom. The online recorder is very simple - if you want something more elaborate it's possible to upload from your computer.

- I've opened a "sandbox" there to try it out http://isandbox.podcastpeople.com/ if you'd like to see it from a students view point let me know and I'll set you up as an author.
Hi Christine,

My class and I blogged in 2005. I taught self-contained Language Arts & Readiing. I wrote about it here for teachers. Hope it is helpful:

Good luck with your project!

Best Wishes,

Thanks for sharing Mechelle, I hope it inspires other teachers to blog with their students. We need to prepare ALL students to be 21st century learners.
