I recently discovered Zamzar an online service: http://www.zamzar.com/ which I have found pretty useful for file conversion

Try Media Converter also. You can upload a file, converts on line, then download the converted file. Very quick for me so far.

For an easy, free solution try Any Video Converter I find client solutions better because of upload/download time of web-based solutions.

I agree with Mr Thomas above, this is a good conversion tool. One of my techie students suggested I use this, and it has been successful for me.

Check out download.com and search avi mpeg converter. There will be several to either try, buy, or download free. It has to be faster than web based.

Thanks the web based ones could get slow for lager files. I will experiment with some of these and see what works best for me.

I go with Jeffrey Any Video Converter is one of the best, even in the free version. I use it for two years now.

and i always use Pavtube Video Converter
it can converter AVI to MPEG with fast speed and has reliable outstanding audio-video sync quality.
