I'm in the process of writing an article about using wikis in the teaching and learning process. I'm wondering what do you think is the most important idea that teachers should keep in mind when using wikis in the classroom?
Wikis serve a couple of important purposes: as a resource bank for its users (student work, subject content, lesson plans, web links, etc), and as a platform for ongoing discussion between members of the learning community.
Have a look at our IB Diploma Film course wiki: http://qafilm.qataracademy.wikispaces.net
I should have an answer to this. I manage a classroom wiki as a portal, run another as a host for my students to learn wikispaces, and use a third as a platform for their digital portfolios. I suppose the most important thing I learned this year was that the young people and I are collaborative learners. There were many times students introduced me to new widgets and they mentored each other brilliantly.
Like all internet use, it was important to know which parents had placed limitations on their children's footprint.
