When I am giving feedback to children especially if it is negative I like to use a hamburger effect where I will start with something positive the tell the negative or the improvement comment then finish with something positive.
What is most important, in my opinion, is to develop a relationship with your students that supports an environment of shared learning. If the feedback is positive and they are excited about the topic or task, you will find that they welcome the help you are offering.
