PRESENTATION: Technology-Infused Creative Writing Program: Six NETS-S Standards within Six Classroom Projects. Explore how the ISTE NETS-S standards, international collaboration, and creative writing in standards-based, project-centered elementary classroom increase student production and global awareness. Visionary teachers and administrators will receive a practical framework from which they may construct similar technology-infused creative writing curriculum based upon state and national standards. References to digital resources include ePals.com, Dance Mat Typing, class web site, survey monkey.com, and thesaurus.com. Exemplary projects – Native American writings, Monster writings, Million Dollar Project, Weather Charts, and The Way We Are ePal project – will be demonstrated, backed by student and principal testimonials. Research from Technology and Creative Writing in the 21st Century Elementary School, a thesis by the presenter will be shared.

BIO: Elizabeth Simmons, in her seventh year teaching fourth grade at Sharon Elementary in Atlanta, previously taught in Gainesville, GA and Ft. Worth, TX. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Bryan College and a Masters degree from North Texas State, she is certified to teach grades K-12 with a gifted endorsement. In June, she completed a Specialist in Technology degree with Lesley University. In June of 2010, her 4th grade class at Sharon Elementary was selected for the Authentic Writing Award by ePals and featured at the 2010 ISTE -NETS Convention in Denver, Colorado.

“Technology-Infused Creative Writing Program: Six NETS-S Standards within Six Classroom Projects” has been adapted and will be featured on the ePals website and in training materials as a model of exemplary work which other teachers can emulate. Finally, she has been privileged to share the unique work at Sharon Elementay through ePals Teacher Spotlight, a bi-monthly feature recognizing teachers who engage their students in great projects and share both the projects and student work with the ePals community.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: This presentation intends to highlight the use of technology in a rural school that changed the lives of pupils completely. With effective use of web 2 tools in Education teaching was made interesting. JNV Bhiwani India has the opportunity to collaborate with many Schools across the globe. The students exchanged their resources with their peers across the globe. The simple classroom teaching got International dimension. What more, the syllabus got integrated with the Projects' works and students got wide exposure. The school participated in nearly every kind of topic including the most recent ones like the climate changes. It is the globalisation of Education in real sense. The presentation aims tell in nutshell our achievements and contributions in short span of time.
