Can anyone recommend a tool to allow our math teacher to conduct "study sessions" online. He wants the ability to demonstrate the steps in an adavanced Algebra or Geometry class(middle school). There should be an area for student questions and a shared portion of the screen for the math demos. Is there a free solution to this? How nice that I have a teacher who wants to stretch and try something like this with his classes. Any ideas anyone?

Team resources for online collaboration. Powerful new features designed to let you work better together. Share resources with your team, co browse the web, annotate shared documents, video phone, skype calls ... share ideas, communicate & sync like never before. 'team-skrbl' is the next best thing to being in the same room.

Thanks Rich, That just might do the trick. We are going to test it this week with a few teachers.
If he wants to do it as a live event, I would recommend a vRoom from Elluminate. The vRoom is a free 3 -seater online classroom - perfect for tutoring. It has full-duplex audio with up to 6 simultaneos talkers. It has a fantastic whiteboard system with the ability to create manipulatives, use pointers, etc. You can upload PowerPoint slides as well. If he needs more than 3 seats, he can rent a room that will hold ten (including himself) simultaneously for $50/month. I used the $50/month room last year. Now I use the full Academic version.

If he isn't aiming for a live classroom, then I highly recommend VoiceThread. He can upload his slides, write right on the slides during a recording, record text or voice. The students can respond by recording their own voice, drawing on the slides, and text.
I'm smiling to myself----someone asks for an online tool that he could use to tutor math students and voila' someone, in fact two people, know of aplications that will work. Isn't Web 2.0 fun? I wonder how many of these tools will be around in 6 months and of those still around, how many will be free. I remember when sites like Blackboard, eboard, Riverdeep, Big Chalk, etc were free. hmmmm?
