Count me in!!! I have one remedial 6th-8th grade reading class that would love to get into the lab (for any reason).... :) I have been working with them to post comments in response to my blog posts regarding the novels we have read together. Giving them a chance to talk about the books they have read on their own with their peers would be even better!
Peter,
So glad that you want to collaborate. Now I guess we figure out the specifics. I teach 8th grade struggling readers. In each of my classes, students complete a weekly assignment. They must read five articles of their choice on Tween Tribune and respond to it using the discussion forum in our online course. The idea was to get students reading on their own, and also for them to share ideas about what they read while developing 21st century skills.
At this point in the year, I see them getting bored. I would like to change things up a bit, and am open to ideas. I just think connecting them with other students outside of their classroom will be really motivating for them.
We can keep things simple and pick a way for our students to communicate , and require them to post about anything they have read, and then require them to respond to at least 2 other students posts? We could each determine the posting requirements ( length, etc.) for our own students and then see what happens?
Let me know what you think?
Rachel
