I discovered that some of our email addresses are visible on the world wide web, by default, which can lead to lots of spam, and is generally not a good idea. I strongly recommend you go to the privacy settings and change away from the current default, and make your email and IM/chat address visible to colleagues or classroom2.0 members only.
Personally I never give out my actual inbox email address to anyone, always forwarding addresses only.
I've messaged Steve about this, asking him to change the default settings.

I have the following info from Steve now:
"I understand your concern. I don't believe we've compromised your private data. I think what happened is that in the public profile questions, one is your favored IM chat and you listed Google Chat with your gmail address. These profile questions do get posted to your profile page, but we don't post the email address that you use to sign up for the network--it's just that I'm guessing in your case they are the same address."
So I've now asked Steve to change the default settings for IM/chat ID visibility
The whole idea of users providing their IM/chat information is if they want others to contact them that way. This is not a required question, so you don't have to answer it, but it only makes sense to have if it's publicly visible.
Best,
Steve
Dear Steve, Am Ruth from Uganda. I have read alot about web 2.0 tools. i wish to use blogs now to enhance my teaching. please advise on how I can do this in my subjects. Do I need to have class students signing to join a group?
