Full Session Description (as long as you would like): As teacher librarian and technology integration specialist, we have begun tackling our role in implementing the Common Core standards in grades K-4. We have been exploring how we can best incorporate research and technology in the lower grades and how it aligns with the Common Core. We have developed, beginning with kindergarten, age-appropriate research materials based on the Big 6 to conduct research projects. Our goal is to scaffold these research skills at each grade level so that students can effectively find information and successfully use it to articulate their understanding of various subjects. Working with teachers, we have created projects that allow students to use technology to share their understanding with an authentic audience. We have identified a variety of web resources, Web 2.0 tools, and iPad apps that allow students to use technology as a vehicle for synthesizing their research at each grade level.

During our presentation, we will be sharing examples of projects that we have collaborated on that demonstrate research, technology and how they align with the Common Core Standards. We will provide materials that we have developed, resources for implementation and an overview of technology project ideas on our web site.
