There are schools that decide to go platform neutral, and require their students to bring their own computers. This is a nice neutral way to approach the tech issue, but it at some point in the process they have to choose a standard format anyways (i.e. .doc, .ppt).
Overall, I think it's excellent that public schools can afford to supply their students with computers at all. When this is the case, a single platform and the benefits of bulk purchasing power make the sort of purchases mentioned in this article look like wise decisions. My school is getting ready to roll out our new teacher laptops and are looking for schools who would be willing to share their Acceptable Use Policy for Teachers or Teacher Use/Expectations/Guidelines ... not sure what it's called exactly ... anything you might be able to share would be most appreciated. Mahalo.

Hello there!

I was posed with an interesting question here the other day and I thought that the answer could best be answered by everyone on classroom 2.0.

Are there any of you out there who have classrooms with laptops or students who use laptops in their instruction who have seen the gains for students in education? Were there problems in getting laptops for your classroom?

The 'powers that be' stated laptops would be useful in a one to one application. I am not sure exactly what that means but I know that technology integration is a growing concern in our division and I would hate for my students to be at a disadvantage when moving into their next level of education.

I know everyone here will have something to say on the subject but I certainly want to hear your views and experiences.

Thanks in advance,
