Our school announced that they would be videotaping teachers as a part of the evaluation process. Does anyone have any guidelines or suggestions on how this could be done in the most effective and beneficial way. I read an article on the subject years ago but do not remember the specifics. The new Competition—held in conjunction with the HASTAC/MacArthur Foundation Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition—explores the potential of digital badges for and by teachers. Applicants will propose badge systems that allow teachers to track and promote feedback regarding their acquisition of new competencies and skills.

Applications are now being accepted for Stage One of the Teacher Mastery and Feedback Badge Competition.

Deadline is December 5th at 5pm PST/8pm EST.

Full information about the Competition is available at http://dmlcompetition.net/Competition/4/teachers.php and posted below.

----------

Teacher Mastery and Feedback Badge Competition (Three Stages)

Full information: http://dmlcompetition.net/Competition/4/teachers.php
Awards: $10,000 to $200,000

In conjunction with the Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition, applicants are invited to propose badging systems not only for learning content, but also for teacher learning and feedback. Competitive submissions proposing badge systems that track and promote feedback regarding the competencies and skills as well as the programs and subjects over which teachers acquire expertise will be a central part of the Stage 1 and Stage 2 processes of the Competition. The winning proposal(s) will be awarded funding to develop the proposed badging system.

Submissions require a 1,000 word written proposal and can include optional supplementary materials that help visualize the proposed badging system. These materials should include systems for recognizing and rewarding some of the capacities, skills, and content they believe are needed to effectively teach math, literacy, or digital literacy skills and/or to effectively teach to the Common Core State Standards. For example, giving feedback to students; developing complex skills; or skills needed to teach in an environment that privileges digital or online learning.

Stage Two: Teacher Mastery and Feedback Badge Competition

Full information: http://www.dmlcompetition.net/Competition/4/teachers-stage-2.php
Stage Two opens on December 12, 2011.
Deadline: January 12, 2012, 5pm PST/8pm EST
Application requirements: 1,500 word written proposal plus visual materials that graphically represent the badge design submission.

In Stage Two, applicants will be encouraged to submit proposals that map out what a teacher mastery and feedback badging system would look like, how it would operate, what benefits and challenges it would present, and the design and implementation process it would incorporate. The proposed badging systems should be based on, and fully interoperable with, Mozilla¹s Open Badge Infrastructure.

Stage Three: Match-making and Finals

Full information: http://www.dmlcompetition.net/Competition/4/teachers-stage-3.php
Stage Three Meeting: February 28-29, 2012

No application needed--finalists from Stages One and Two will be selected to advance. We know that this type of authentic learning is the best for our students, but the reality of our teaching world can be quite different. The goal of the group is to exchange ideas so we can find practical ways of implementing learning based on inquiry. We would love to have you come by and give a few ideas and take a few ideas. We have 4 blogs running in the class and students comment on each others blog. I require that each student post atleast 4 times to a blog. Is there any way to collect this statistic apart from manually counting it ? We are using blogger.com

I am on a district committee with the task of developing principal evaluations using the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC pronounced izlick) Standards. Has anyone else been a part of such a committee, and if so what sorts of recommendations, suggestions, documents etc. could you share? Additionally, I'm wondering if anyone applied a specific technology toward aiding the process.

Every individual objectively differs in their understanding and approach to different learning environment. The key issue is how these systems can be able to deliver the content and meet the specific requirements of the individual. How can these systems replace the role played by the teacher in a traditional teaching environment, in dealing with specific needs of the learner, (student). How can we evaluate these systems with a view to provide solutions to the problem, given that there are three levels of activities (the teacher, the technology and the learner).
