With Shakespeak I met many professors who start to do so. In The Netherlands we're already serving a number of Dutch universities with our product. This tool allows you start a dialogue with your audience. A PowerPoint plugin can be dowloaded for free and as a teacher you can start asking your students for a vote or reaction. Students use their mobile phone to respond [via TXT, Internet or Twitter] and results come in instantly and are automatically integrated on your screen.

Research shows that students are more involved in the study subject and professors are able to create a lively discussion and in the same time measure knowledge gaps.

Since we just launched our product and from a co-creation perspective, I'm interested to hear how you think the product can be used and improved. You can find a free download at shakespeak.com.

I had a conversation with a teacher today about how to teach students the 'basic skills' of the Microsoft suite (Word, PPT, Excel, Access). She thinks that integration is the final goal but in order to get there we have to train the teachers as well as educate the students on how to use these programs. How do you go about this problem? What kinds of 'basic skills' are important to teach our students and how can we make time to make them a part of the curriculum?
Want to DIY a Christmas E-card for Best Wishes?tag:www.classroom20.com,2009-12-10:649749:Topic:4186332009-12-10T08:14:04.534ZCharlene Quhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/CharleneQu

Last year while I was teaching 1984, I utilized slideshare with my students who were presenting chapters of the novel to the class. I introduced them to slideshare and they were able to upload their presentations and then post them on our class wiki. If you reference my earlier post on wikis in the classroom, you will see that I had students maintain a daily log of their work on the presentations. They had to provide progress, group tasks and any documents they would be handing out during their presentation. Here are two of the examples that students used via slideshare.

You will notice that once the presentations are embedded into your blog or wiki, they allow you to utilize most of the functions that is alloted in a presentation program. Also, teachers can utilize this with all of their presentations they use in the classroom. You can even email them to students if they missed a class in which you gave a presentation. Slideshare is also useful for professional development classes and workshops. It is one way in which you can share your presentations and student work without having to locate, find and sync a flash drive.

Students and colleagues alike can follow along with a slideshare presentation as well. If teachers embed their slideshare presentation to a blog or wiki, students and faculty can follow along on their laptops. This may assist students who have trouble following slides or if students wish to use the presentation as a study guide later in the unit.

I hope you enjoyed this idea and would like to hear feedback about how you utilized slideshare in your own classroom!

This is so old school, but ... do schools use Office 2003 or 2007?tag:www.classroom20.com,2009-04-13:649749:Topic:3263902009-04-13T23:16:18.683ZCatherinehttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/Catherine
I know this isn't Web 2.0, but I'm not sure who to ask other than this lovely group... I'm putting together a resource CD/DVD and one of the contributors has recorded an audio PPT presentation in PowerPoint 2007. It can be viewed with the PowerPoint viewer 2007 but not the PowerPoint viewer 2003. I'm concerned that people will not have the PowerPoint 2007 viewer if they are still using Office 2003.

So my question is: are education institutions using Office 2003 or 2007?

The link for that The President's Scrapbook is: http://www.educationalsynthesis.org/famamer/Scrapbook-2

I've just updated it with the picture of our new president, and got to thinking. Virginia has specified Famous Americans for all the elementary grades, and they are on the Famous Americans link at http://www.educationalsynthesis.org/famamer listed by each grade. I am wondering how well this webquest would work in K and 1st grade, and then in 3, 4, 5th grades.

Should I include the pictures on the webquests for K and 1 so that the kids just have to write up the information (dictate, etc). Is there anything else needed for these young'uns? What about 3,4 and 5. Will they need the pages set up, pictures put in place or they should import pictures from the webpage? At which grade level could I expect the kids to do a powerpoint from scratch without me making the model?

If I create a similar webquest for non-Virginia classes, what grade level would be best to direct the teacher to prepare the power point in advance, and at which grade level could the students be expected to create it from scratch? At what grade level could an individual students make his/her own powerpoint for the whole project instead of making just one page of it?
I have recently started using powerpoint to help my middle school math students learn math. I use animation that works in concert with comments and student interaction. At least that is my goal. I am concerned that I use powerpoint appropriately. Is my animation a distraction or does it draw student attention?
