I need some advice. I am trying to get a mobile device to use with my special education students in K,1,2 and 4th grades. I need something that can access the web and use content on sites like Starfall.com and mangahigh. I also want something that can be used as an ereader so I can load books for my kids to read in class. Does anyone know what the capabilities are for the ipod touch, Nook or Kindle to cover these needs? Ipad would probably be the best but price is an issue.

While iPod touches are proliferating in the classroom, is anyone considering using android mobile devices (without phone subscriptions) ?
What do you think about the future of using mobile devices based on the more open source android operating system over iPod touches?
There is a debate among some of my university friends as to which device will ultimately be more useful in the classroom (they're a mixture of computer science and design folks).
Hello, I was wondering if there is an iPod touch simulator or emulator for mac? I know that there is one that comes with the iPhone SDK however it doesn't have any of the apps on it, just photos, contacts, and mobile safari... I'd like to be able to demonstrate how to use some of the software we bought on my smartboard using an emulator...

I recently signed up for a very interesting platform called Mobl21 that allows me to create mobile learning lessons for my students (8th grade) and push the content to multiple access points. The system is still in beta but have been advised that they will be going live shortly.

Seems like a very interesting platform and I would like to see if others are working on the same or are planning to use the system. The system allows me to create content but I wanted to see if others were using to understand the application that they were using the system for and how they perceived the value. Also wanted to understand if teachers were planning on getting students to use the system as there seems to be an opportunity to do the same.

I am writing an article on the best free educational apps for the iPod Touch. What are your favorites? Which one do you use the most? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi, would love to start creating simulation activities for different subject areas for teachers to train them using the iPod touch and all its possibilities. (And this also includes administrators)....

Have created one for a general use but looking to expand my ideas...
Megan Who is using iPod touches in primary classroom?tag:www.classroom20.com,2010-01-05:649749:Topic:4247572010-01-05T04:24:16.958ZKatherine Burdickhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/KatherineBurdick
I see a lot about using iPod touches in secondary and intermediate classrooms, but are there any teachers/schools using them for primary. If so, how is it working and can you share some tips?

** CHI 2010 Workshop on UI Technologies and Educational Pedagogy **

Given the exponential growth of interactive whiteboards in classrooms around the world, there has been a need to explore how next generation HCI will impact education in the future. Educators are depending on the interaction communities to deliver technologies that will improve/adapt learning to an ever-changing world.

In addition to novel UI concepts, the HCI community needs to examine how these concepts can be matched to contemporary paradigms in Educational pedagogy. The classroom is a challenging environment for evaluation, thus new techniques need to be established to prove the value of new HCI interactions in the Educational space. This workshop
provides a forum to discuss key HCI issues facing next generation education.

We invite authors to present position papers about potential design challenges and perspectives on how the community should handle the next generation of HCI in education. Topics of interest include:

* Gestural input, multitouch, large displays
* Mobile Devices, response systems (clickers)
* Tangible, VR, AR & MR, Multimodal interfaces
* Console gaming, 3D input devices
* Co-located interaction, presentations
* Educational Pedagogy, learner-centric
* Empirical methods, case studies
* Multi-display interaction

Submission: The deadline for workshop paper submissions is January 6th, 2010. Interested researchers should submit a 4-page position paper in the ACM CHI Extended Abstract Format to edwardtse [at] smarttech.com. Acceptance notifications will be sent out March 15, 2010.

The workshop will be held April 11, 2010 in Atlanta, USA. Please note that at least one author of an accepted position paper must register for the workshop and for one or more days of the CHI 2010 conference.
