Hello All:

We are building a lesson plan for using technology in teaching high school maths. We are looking to make optimal use of some or all of the following:

1. Open source software applications
2. Internet tools like WebQuest, blogs, social networking

Because of budgetary restrictions, we are not supposed to use hardware items like smartboards, multiple video cameras etc. The idea is to devise an economical lesson plan which could act as an example for teachers in high schools to develop…

If you could pass on any inputs, web resources, names of books etc, I would appreciate it.
I have created a webquest for upper elementary-middle school classes called "Meet the Candidates." This is an award-winning project, updated for the 2008 election, with web 2.0 tools incorporated. The project is available at: http://eev.liu.edu/KK/election/meetthecandidates/index.htm
Your students will learn about candidates and elections as they participate in this timely project by working in teams to research platforms and policies, develop marketing plans, or plan for public awareness campaigns. All links are included. The project will culminate with a virtual election.

Would you like your class to participate in this project??

Deadline to join is: September 5th, 2008. Project must be completed by October 31st. To join: go to the project website, read through it, and then click on the 'teacher' page for directions on how to participate!

I have a SmartBoard with high speed internet access in my classroom. Our school also has a distance learning lab. I already videocast of all my lessons and post them to my class website (for the other subjects I teach). I also have student response keypads, video editting equipment, graphing calculators, and the ability to purchase what I need. I have no experience doing webquests or teaching outside the book (but I am willing to learn).

Ideally, I would like to make this course into a 21st century classroom - project based with the students learning how to research the problem while they are solving it.

Any suggestions for webquests, websites, books, resources, gadgets, etc would be greatly appreciated.
