Election 2008

I am looking for a classroom to collaborate with in the fall 2008 reagarding the 2008 Election. Currently, I teach 10th grade American Government. Would anyone be willing to work with me on getting a project off the ground for the next school year?

Try her again -- she is super to work with. Or just apply to the wiki, find a role, and join in!

If you want to do something separate I would be more than happy to organize something over the summer. We will be spending some considerable time on the election.

all saved so we could use them or create something new. I am actually doing something with Eric Means right now -- same school? and Marilyn Matcall from an elementary school in your district.

I'm a bit late to this discussion... I teach 12th grade US Government in Indiana.

I recently made a post asking if there were teachers who might be interested in having their students blog with mine regarding the election. I don't know if you've alreday got your curriculum in place for the fall (we've been back in school for two weeks), but I thought I'd just touch base to see if you might have an interest.

I'm going to be using a great deal of the PBS Election Resources (http://www.pbs.org/teachers/vote2008/), and a great deal of those materials involve blogging. I've already created a web page that my students can use in gathering information on the campaign (naturally, you or anyone else reading this are welcome to use or comment on it), and we're getting ready to start in the next few days creating blogs. The page is located at http://www.vcsc.k12.in.us/staff/mhutchison/election.

I'm sorry I was late getting with you on this, but I didn't join Classroom 2.0 until June, and I just had a lot of things going on all summer.

In addition, you (and the other folks who replied) are welcome to look at the story I wrote for Cable in the Classroom magazine's September issue which features several teachers who are using Web 2.0 resources to teach the election. Michael,
This looks great! A few questions:
1. Are your students blogging or is it anyone that comes across your website?
2. Are you previewing posts so that trolls don't manipulate your blogs?
3. How do you keep track of participation from your students? It seems like there were a few different blogs beyond ballot vox. I don't know if I would be able to tell if my students were contributing.

We have been at school for a few weeks as well, but I would love for my students to get involved from now on (pending the questions above). Should I send them to your web site and set them free? I replied to Michael, but am also interested in connecting with your students. One of our social studies teacher is doing a quarter elective (now through Nov. 7) on the Election. She's getting a class blog up and running, where the students in the class reply via comments to her prompts and questions. She would love to have other students reply as well, and she also plans to have her students read other student blogs and comment on them. (We're a small rural high school in Maine)

If you happen to have an art teacher in your district blogging with their students, I'd love to connect for that as well.
