Favorite children's books

Okay.
Here's an easy "get-to-know-you" activity for us. List one or more of your favorite children's books. Just give the title, or give the title and an activity.

The Book Thief is intense. I only suggest it to my most gifted readers.

I have soo many favorites but I as a reading specialist I love to read stories about the love and/or the importance of reading. Here are two of my favorites...

Again, another P.Polacco fan! One reason I like her books is b/c they appeal to kids of all ages (adults, too!) I haven't read The Bee Tree. I'll add it to my next Amazon order. Cha-ching!

I love all of the Anansi stories, esp Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. The children LOVE to act it out!!!

I've started compiling this list and will put it in the bookstore for eternity shortly! Great list and keep them coming....very general and helpful in that vein.

See some other lists, in particular Gifted Readers and H.S. Books which Classroom 2.0 members have recommended. Great books there and a very unique list. Interesting to see this list and much different than the Gifted Readers list which is mostly for grades 4-6.

I got the booklist in our Classroom 2.0 bookstore. Check it out. Interesting for some books to read the amazon discussions and what other readers said. Nice list! Immortal.

The Tale of Despereux by Kate DiCamillo (synthesis and just a plain old good book!)
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (vocabulary and ju a plain old good book!) same author

My kids loved the Skippy John Jones books too! Lois Lowry's Gooney B Greene are great for writing connections.

Sunday's and Teacakes by Lester Lamirick (I apologize if I'm spelling his last name wrong..but it's a great book for connections...word choice...sentence fluency...vocabulary...and more!

So many books...so little time!

Okay,
If you all haven't already, you've GOT to LISTEN to the audio version of The Tale of Despereux! It's fantastic! (I'm a big fan of listening to books--especially in the car. Right now I have a Dean Koontz book on CD that I'm listening to--By the Light of the Moon. This is the first I've "read" something of his--loving it!

THAT will have to be our next list--favorite adult FICTION. :-)

I am currently reading The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White to my grade 2 class. A great story of tenacity, resilience and humour. The children love the humour and have fallen in love with swans.
Anything by Roald Dahl is always a hit in our classroom.
