I really want to do the Hobbit, since it would be the shortest of Tolkien's works to tackle in a short period of time, in relation to Beowulf and other Anglo-Saxon works. Has anyone done this yet, and what approaches have you taken?

Matthew,

I notice your posting date, with no responses. Perhaps you've moved ahead...or moved on...with this idea. I teach Beowulf, and have read Tolkien's works, though never used them in the classroom. I do, however, refer to them, and recently included a few excerpts when presenting the archetypal hero's journey (ala Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces).
