I have actually used this with boys. And with specific directions and topics that interest them, they are happy to create. They must have a well-constructed paragraph and can take their own pictures. They must upload a video from our school that is on schooltube. The 3rd-graders are working on insects and must write a complete paragraph as well as cover some aspect of insects: life cycles, body parts, etc. I think with the right instructions, it works quite well. They are really excited to create something so quickly... There is the educational version, edu.glogster.com, that my students love. I teach 6th grade science and they have created many projects. The first assignment was Science and Me which was just to get them using the site and getting familiar with what it can do. The next two projects escalated in criteria. The first was comparing Mitosis and Meiosis. The second was Ecosystems at Risk. Not only can the students create projects, but you can use it, too. My homepage on my wikispace is an embeded…

The first was comparing Mitosis and Meiosis. The second was Ecosystems at Risk. Not only can the students create projects, but you can use it, too. My homepage on my wikispace is an embeded glog. I have seen glogs where the teacher used it for guidelines for a project, paper, research, etc. and for introductions and interactive lessons. When I first looked at glogster.com, I too thought it might cause some parent phone calls. I then learned of edu.glogster.com and loved it. The projects can remain private where only there classmates and myself can view them or with parental permission, they can make it public. So much more exciting and engaging for the students than creating a poster. You know, I'm still having problems with this. Our kids created some great glogs during a poetry unit and I went to embed them into a page I created on Google sites and changed the sizing in the embed code and it embedded as the right size, but you could only see half of the glog. The idea for the unit was great, but the problems we had were horrible:<br />
1) students logging in and finding out work they had done the day before was just gone, we couldn't explain it, Glogster couldn't explain it.<br />

2) Or links went to wrong pages, even though the url was correct.<br />
3) Or students logged to their accounts and found other pages from other students!<br />
4) Or the student would click on the thumbnail of their glog to edit it and it would tell us the glog couldn't be found.<br />
It took us an extra week to get everyone finished with this. All Glogster did was tell us that when a problem occurred take a screen shot of it and send it to them with the student's account information. Then I would receive an email or a phone call back, saying they didn't know what we were talking about because when they logged in, everything worked just fine. In a couple of occurrences they saw the problem, but said it was strange that was happening.<br />

I think this is a great tool and I'm so glad so many have found it useful, but we've had so many problems using it in my building and I have so many teachers frustrated with it, that we've pretty much told teachers not to use it anymore. You also know it's a problem when the kids ask not to use it anymore. I know someone from Glogster will contact me as soon as I've published this, but I'm sick of the run around and being told that the problem is on our end. My techs and the county engineers have been out to look at any problems and I've been told by them the problem is the site. Glogster has made us believe that we are the only school experiencing these problems. Has anyone else EVER had any of these problems?? Yes, if you need to change the sizing in the code, you will need to change the html code.

Hi - I just came across this through the forum and I had to respond. I've used this with kids and the absolutely love it!! It's a great way for students to create posters at the end of a unit, write about a specific term or concept or just share ideas about themselves. If you want, check out my wiki page and there is a great example of one that also exhibits web 2.0 tools. It's very easy to use and the teacher can manage it entirely. Good luck!<br />

I've ran into this problem. All Glogster has told me is to let them know when something like this happens and take a screen shot and send it to them. However, it is a little difficult to do that when you can't find the glog! I would contact Glogster and give them your account information and see what they can do.<br />
<br />
I really really like this product, except for when it doesn't work!

Hi! We've been using Glogster (not the education version) for a grade 12 project (a visual essay) dealing with "man's inhumanity to man" as a response to Lord of the Flies. As a result the students have covered some fairly dark subjects like genocide, etc. The glogs have been kept private. Today, however, after saving their completed work, several students were unable to find it again. The glogs had disappeared. So, any thoughts? Could they have been removed?

I have just used it with a group of 6th grade students for them to display knowledge of wetlands. They were required to have a title, 2 pictures, a video, three facts and a "more info" link. None of the students (nor the teacher) were familiar with Glogster. I had set up their student accounts in the edu version. The students really enjoyed working with this and can't wait to be able to make one about something "non-school".
