You have to be 13 to use ning, so that is a consideration. It really depends on what you want your kids to do. You can see our blog here, if it gives you any ideas.

Hi Laura,
I teach grade 6 students and this year, they started using a blog. I'm now wondering what will be best, a blog or a NING ? What do you think? One a the aspect that I like with the NING in the langague option since I'm teaching in French.

Three different tools that I've used have been pretty easy.

•For wikis, I like using wikispaces. I have a personal one linked to others that I've created. http://shanson.wikispaces.com
•For bookmarking, I like portaportal. It doesn't have some of the social aspect that I've heard about with del.icio.us, but it's easy to use. My page is located at http://guest.portaportal.com/smhanson
Hi Adina,

I think blogs are very easy to get started with for both teachers getting started and students. Students are always eager to try new things. Edublog is an easy tool to use and designed specially for educators. Ning is another platform to use. I work with teachers learning to use these technologies and we have had much success with Edublog. There is just enough there and not to overwhelming.
David, you may already know about PacktPub. (I have no affiliation with them other than I love their books.)

They have published 3 excellent Moodle books. I like to have a print reference on my desk when trying to figure things out. The one on Moodle Administration is particularly good if you manage your own installation.
I agree that it takes a while to get up to speed but once you get used to the way things are done, editing, adding resources or activities, etc. it begins to make sense, and its apparent that it is a well thought out piece of software. As I've mentioned before in a similar post, you should try using Mixbook.com

I have actually got more feedback from teachers who used it in their classroom to create projects and yearbooks.

It's free, no download required and has collaborative features for the classroom.
Have come across your comment from 2007 re starting blogging and tried to follow your link for the instruction you have for your students but was unable to bring it up. Is there any other way that I can access it?
