I'm looking for a blogsite that could be used with a group of people and would be visible only to that group of people. It would not be on the web for the public to view. Does any one know of a site that offers that service? Thanks.

Certainly, I may sound like a broken record, but you can do that in Ning. Classroom 2.0 is opened up, but you can create a private network, and you'll have blogs plus all the other features.
Thanks for the idea. This blog is for a large family so they can use it to post news and pictures on but they would be the only ones to see it. I will check Ning out.
Not really for "educational" use but edublogs would do this for you. Set up an edublog "parent" blog with one member of the family as the "admin."

Set up any other family members with edublogs (with bogus hotmail accounts--they won't use these blogs, they just need to have accounts to be added as contributors to the first one), too, and then add them as "authors" to the first one.

Set the "parent" edublog to be closed to unregistered users in the options and any random surfer would have to get past the username\password screen to see the site.

And then set up a Flickr account, install the flickr plugin in the "parent" edublog plugins areaand they can tie their family pixs on flickr into any posts.
Thanks for all of the help!
I think Vox does this as well. It's a blog for personal use, and I think it can be private.

You could also use a Wiki site. My family has used pbwiki, and we just make it a private site. I believe wetpaint.com or wikispaces even has a template for planning events, etc.
