Hi

For my research projct i had designed and developed a pilot short course using Ning. Howeever Ning has stated charging now and i cant afford to buy its services as i am an unemployed student.

Could you recommend good/popular alternative websites to create on-line modules and courses, for free?

The basic requirements needed are:

*able to create new pages
*discussions board
*learners have their own personnel page
*live instant chat

One that i have been thinking about is wikispaces. http://www.wikispaces.com/

Hi Usman,

If you have your own domain, you can install the opensource Moodle LMS and it will allow you to do everything you've listed and much, much, more.  Plus as the administrator, you will have full control over the functionality of the site.

If you don't have your own domain, you can still get access to moodle through http://www.e-socrates.org/ - I haven't used this service so I can't comment on their response time, etc.

These two leads should get you started... for now;

thanks. Ye almost forgot about moodle.

Any other suggestions which any1 have tried?

You should try http://enterthegroup.com, it has;

*IM chat

*email

*private group/personal pages

*online calendar,

*message boards

*file sharing and more

and it's also free
