I agree with Briana on several aspects of her comments. Clearly, we can improve our presentation skills, so that the class can better follow the lesson plan that was laid out. Also, we could have focused on drilling down in applying the listening activities in a more concise manner. In doing, so we would have maintained the attention of the classroom. Additionally, as stated we continue to learn, and as we do we will be able to better manage our time around our lesson plan. Further, I do agree that we did a good job in connecting the 5 c’s to the students. It is also possible that we can use other mediums besides music to connect and communicate the listening activity segment with the classroom. Students continue to evolve, and we as educators should be flexible in keeping current with the tools we have available to teach them with. (150 words)
Overall, the main objective of your group's teaching slice was good because the class heard the song and were able to fill in the blanks with the missing songs from the lyrics. I agree that your group did a good job connecting to the 5 C's and that was very noticeable to everyone. It had all the student's attention plus it was entertaining. Me personally, I enjoy hearing songs in different languages especially when it has a good rhythm therefore I am very sure that your student's would enjoy an activity like this in the future since it's different and from a different culture. It was good that you and your group were able to observe yourselves where the lesson could have been better because that way our next teaching experience can always be better.
The micro teaching slice was a speaking activity in which the class had to participate and practice their Spanish. The activity included physical and personality descriptions. This way it allows the students to use the basic Spanish they would have already learned considering it was aimed for a first level spanish class. Methods such as group work was implemented in the teaching slice by pairing up each student and having them describe each other, one personality description on one index card and a physical description on the second. After a few minutes of classwork, students were encouraged to read the positive descriptions they made of their partner. This created a relaxed and fun environment for the class and got them engaged and captivated their attention.
The time aspect of the teaching slice was successful as well. Everything that was supposed to be analyzed for this activity was covered successfully and each section was divided in a way that allowed the presentation to run smoothly. It allowed the students to finish and accomplish the objective of the activity which was to practice speaking Spanish using descriptions and key terms. A few aspects that did not go so well were the grammatical errors in the slides during the presentation because it would be teaching the students the wrong way of writing and pronouncing the words. Additionally, the variety of ways that a concept can be said can be dangerous when teaching as well.
A good observation that my colleagues pointed out is that “hair” in Spanish was said in more than one way. Even though the definition is the same and may be used correctly while teaching, it may cause confusion for the beginner students and one may realize that it can come off a bit unorganized when that may not be the case. Therefore, this can be avoided by having a clear idea of the words and objective one must teach during the lesson. The next lesson should probably continue with descriptions but instead of describing people, perhaps describing objects and places would be the next step. Overall, it was an interesting and delightful experience creating a speaking activity for the micro teaching lesson.
Overall the presentation was excellent. The primary goal of the lesson was to teach students how to describe their partners suitably. Something that educators know is that allowing the students to work with a partner is an excellent way for them to feel connected with their peers. When making an activity that is personal, there will always be positive reactions from the students. While everything went as one planned, both educators should be more aware of the new vocabulary that they are presenting to the students, for some of them might use it differently.
During this project, my group members and I sought out on working on a listening activity. This listening activity that was planned for the class on Friday, was heavily criticized. Despite that, we had presented to the best of our expertise. One aspect that I personally believed went well was related to the five C’s. Specifically, that our student audience was able to understand how the five C’s were incorporated into our lesson. The importance of this is clearly due to its connection to our class model. Students were able to relate to the lesson due to our choice of music. By choosing a song that most people know they were able to remain interested in the lesson as a whole. We as teachers need to research more to verify what type of content that is being brought into the classroom. Although we understand the criticisms, overall the content clearly piqued the interest of the students. In this listening activity, the students were able to connect with the music due to the fact that they had heard it on the radio. Through this method of teaching, educators will be able to improve and expand upon their teaching style through mistakes and different experiences. By pairing the 5 c’s in our lesson students seem absorbed and interested. In closing, I will apply the lessons I learned during this project to future lessons. By modifying the choice of examples brought into the classroom as to avoid triggering some individual’s sensitive nature in class. (251 words)
The micro teaching lesson was about speaking. My partner and I presented the lesson starting with the date and some pictures it was introduced implicitly. After that we had someone volunteer and read the date for us then as a class participate and describe each character that was presented to them. This was set as an example for them to get the class ready for the activity which was to have the students engage in conversation by putting them in groups of two so that everyone can practice utilizing the target language for the first level of Spanish with their peers. The topic we chose for the activity was physical and personality descriptions of your partner we thought this would be a good topic for students to get engaged in conversation in the class. Some aspects of the micro teaching that went well was the timing we were able to cover everything in the time frame that we were given. We also accomplished the objective of speaking Spanish using descriptions and the key terms. Some of the negative aspects of the lesson which my classmates pointed out is the grammatical errors in the slides. As future educators, we need to be cautious not to present something ungrammatically incorrect because we would not want the students to grasp the wrong information. If I were to re-teach some parts of the lesson I would make sure that my slides would be grammatically correct without any typos so that students do not get confused.(251words)
The presentation was excellent. It was full of excitement, and it was very personal to the students. The primary goal was for the pupils to be able to describe their classmate with vocabulary that included physical and personality descriptions. As an educator one can see that some of the five C’s are involved. This is very important because one will always want to make those connections. The lesson as done explicitly, fortunately, the pupils were very intriguing with the activity. All educators must be careful of the grammatical errors that might appear in the presentations or exercises; therefore, it is essential for everyone to always triple check ones' work before presenting it.
