Hi everyone, I'm looking for some age appropriate websites for currrent events.  I teach seventh grade social studies and language arts.  Thanks for the help!

Here's a site that provides links to many news resources. http://www.educationalsynthesis.org/mrsp/index-News.html
Check out these resources for ones you feel are appropriate: http://www.educationalsynthesis.org/mrsp/index-News.html
http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/studentnews/11/04/sn.how.to/index.html# I have been using CNN student news for my middle school class. Sometimes I cut it short because we only have 45 minute periods. My students seem to be learning current events from it.
Thanks for the infomation!
I use a site called TweenTribune (http://tweentribune.com/) that was created by the father of a middle school student specifically because his tween age daughter had trouble finding age and content appropriate articles for her current events assignments. Your students can actually sign up and blog online at this site. I've been using it for two years now and my kids love it.
I visited Tween Tribune and at first thought it only had "enquirer-type news". I was wrong, and after checking out the different categories agree that this site is great! I can see how it gets kids interested in what's going on around them. Some of the news stories would be great classroom discussion topics and perfect for stimulating writing project ideas. Are there any other sites like this?
I use this for my students as well.  I make them do one a week and apply it to the quarter grade.  They love doing it.  They ask if there are a few minutes left in class, "Can I work on my TweenTribune?"  Of course!

This site has selected news stories and options to take interactive quizzes.

Your students might also enjoy The Week in Rap by Flocabulary.  It provides an overview of the week's events in the form of a rap.

A few sites I've used:

www.teentribune.com (already mentioned)

www.studentnewsdaily.com

and

http://learning.blogs.nytimes.com

Hope those can help get you started!
