How do you store published writings that students do? I do a "portfolio" share at the end of the year in 1st grade, but I am looking for a more appealing way to display their work (we currently use big file folders or envelopes that the children decorate).

I know a teacher who used pizza boxes. Another teacher took pipe cleaners and made handles and then large oaktag folded in half to make the sides, and made little "briefcases for their work" -- the two might even be combined!
I once saw a first grade teacher show a powerpoint of selected pages from all the students. Each child chose their favorite page. Each page contained a picture relating to text that ran across the bottom of the page. The powerpoint scrolled on a big screen as parents walked around observing writing and project work the students had done throughout the year.
Check out Beth Newingham's Writer's Workshop information at http://hill.troy.k12.mi.us/staff/bnewingham/myweb3/index.htm. I'm pretty sure she has info on writing portfolios in there somewhere. BUT BE WARNED! If you haven't been to her site, you may get lost in there for HOURS! She has AMAZING resources!
