One tool to consider if you're not tech-savvy, or if you have a tight budget, is Classcraft (www.classcraft.com). It's a browser-based role-playing game that teachers and students play together in the classroom, over any lesson plan or grade level, to foster engagement and teamwork. It's easy to learn, and all you need is a computer and a projector to get going!

I am in collage right now for ESL education. And I have just been introduced to Smart boards They seem to be really useful, and all of the positive comments about them seem helpful, and I feel that If possible when I get into the classroom I should use one. Is there any draw backs to using them?

There are many ways to use technology in the classroom. One way would be through current events. You could send your students to look up a current event article for your area. This would then aid them in the use of technology and keep them informed of what is happening around them.

I believe that using a Promethean ActivBoard and having a computer lab in the classroom are very effective ways to integrate technology. I am all about creating an environment that encourages students to learn. I feel like students are more incline to try and learn when a teacher is able to make assignments fun and exciting. Students like to be involved and with the Promethean ActivBoard there are many ways for that to happen.

I love having technology to encourage learning. I had no thought about how technology could impact a special needs child in the classroom. Wow, could it open up opportunities for one that is challenged physically, but capable mentally. It could put them on equal ground, possibly, with the other students.

I love seeing technology used, especially if you have visual or hands on learners. It can boost their confidence and encourage students that may not participate otherwise to be engaged in learning.

Using Skype to connect classrooms is a great idea. I had heard of doing that before to connect in classrooms around the world, but it would be great to do it within your school. You could connect to do large projects or just share a lesson without moving the students. That is a fantastic idea.

Should their be an attempt to close the financial gaps in regards to technology in classrooms universally, even if the educators are unfamiliar with them? Or would that just lead to wasted tech? Having smartboards, an elmo and linked computers can work great if everyone uses them, but the same could be said about a VHS player and a few computers. This does leave students inexperienced with up to date tech, but if the teacher is not going to implement the technology very much (probably…

I think that using smart boards or projectors are good tools to use in the classroom. you can show students the notes on your computer, write something out, or even show them a video! this makes everything visible for the students and it hooks their interest with a visual rather than a boring lecture.

In my classroom I am fortunate enough to have several pieces of technology to help me motivate my students. The most recent addition has been a Smartboard. This has provided me with many opportunities to engage the students in all subjects I teach. The Smartboard has helped me in so many ways, most importantly with questions from students seeking information. I am able to pull most information up and show students the exact answer or methods to finding an answer. Another piece of technology that I find useful is my microphone. When in use by the teacher, students seem to be more focused on what is being said, especially because of the volume. It also motivates students to read and participate in activities just so they can hear their own voices being broadcast throughout the classroom. Our school is totally wireless, so we have several laptop carts teachers can use.
