Carr fully acknowledges that the internet and digital technologies have enhanced our lives in ways almost unimaginable a generation ago. He's no Luddite, by a long shot.<br />

He simply explains in detail how using the net activates different areas of the brain than slower more deliberate activities such as sustained reading of text in the form of traditional books. His book is not a condemnation, but rather a warning that there are trade-offs.<br />
