I am interested to know how different classrooms use Twitter in the classroom.  Specifically on the Elementary level, how are the twitter conversations managed? In what scenarios and contexts is Twitter used in the classroom?

This may not be the area you're interested in but, I am a lecturer in Fine Art (my students are 18 years +) I use Twitter to encourage my students to engage in dialogue with galleries, artists and curators and to voice their opinions about art and exhibitions they have seen. As they are over 18 I don't need to manage their use of this platform it is purely an exercise to encourage them to form opinions and engage in current debate. I hope that helps...

Twitter can be used at the Elementary level as a log to keep family members informed what their child is doing in school. You can pull Twitter up on the board so the students can help you write the tweet. This will help the students with composing a message that will be seen by all. You can work on grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Hi Tiffany, I do not have elementary school students and I have very little experience with Twitter. In my graduate level class, we had to create a Twitter account and follow our classmates. I think that would be a great place to start with the younger students. You can become one big group who shares ideas with each other. You can also monitor what the students are doing and get a grasp on how savvy they are with technology. They could be introduced to creating their home pages, uploading photos, using the internet responsibly, etc. Also a great way to connect the students to each other and form a support group for each other.
