I have what I think will be a fantastic and engaging idea for our study of Romeo and Juliet, but I am needing some ideas on where to go online to get some of the things we are going to need. I want to take Romeo and Juliet act by act and read through it in class. Then, the next step I am wanting to take is to create a news show for today's world that is similar to Saturday Night Live. I want the kids to write scripts and have 2 anchor people report the news/events kind of like what is done with Weekend Update. They will be putting Shakespeare into their own words and reporting the story from their point of view. I am planning on getting a private teachertube or youtube site to put the videos out there and then inviting parents in to view the student's work. So far, they seem very excited about the possibilities, but I need some help.

First of all, is there an online video editing program that is free? I will need to have the students edit their movie before we publish it. Also, can anyone suggest a direction I can take a few of my students who are very interested in creating RAP music/songs to go along with what we are doing? I am getting every intelligence involved here including drawings of the scenes and the characters in the scenes.

I am really excited about this and want it to be successful! I want it to be something I can use every year as well. Any suggestions you would have for me would be greatly appreciated!!
Fugleflicks were nominated for an Edublog Award-Please vote!tag:www.classroom20.com,2010-12-05:649749:Topic:5742882010-12-05T14:32:50.184ZA E Matthewhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/AEMatthew

Digital storytelling carnival #3 is now online. This may be of interest to anyone who is just getting started as well as advanced digital storytellers. There are how to articles, examples from classrooms, and professional inspiration.

The carnival happens every month. Consider submitting an article for the next one and come back again for new tips.

As I read through the information, it struck me what a great introductory lesson this would be for the start of the year.

Students take digital stills, then write a 50 word commentary on how the photo reflects their point of view. Brilliant! The assignment includes tech literacy skills, personal writing, shows the students early on that I'm interested in them beyond their classwork, and (on a purely practical level) will make a GREAT classroom display for back-to-school night!

Students would be pretty engaged, because who doesn't love talking about themselves? It would also be a great way to work in the ideas of extended metaphors as student connect their image with themselves.

So I guess my discussion point here is, how can we use digital photography to enhance students' writing (and learning in general), or is it just fluff stuff?
