Wrestling with standards

I'm at two schools where the teachers are realling having difficulty getting the kids to master the standards (We have the SOL in Virginia). It has changed the culture of the school so that teachers look fo activities that meet standards or they are not willing to try them...Do you have any ideas on activities for me to suggest to these teachers?
