I was just reading bog entries about inclusion. Spicifically, they were discussing the issue of whether or not there were any benefits for regular ed students in an inclusion setting. One of the teachers stated that there were no benefits in inclusion, because there existed little or no real interaction between the 2 sub-groups. The blog had closed, and I wasn't able to participate, but I really would love to hear from my colleagues. By the way, I absolutely disagree with this teacher, but I…

By the way, I absolutely disagree with this teacher, but I have only been teaching inclusion for a year. Perhaps my views on the subject are unrealistic or too romantic?

In any event, here's my question:

Technology can be helpful in many areas of special education. From aiding communication to assistive technologies that enrich the student's educational experience. Most of the commentary on this forum focuses on areas where educators have successfully integrated technology into their classroom. However, I have personally watched my mother (teacher for 30+ years) and sister (teacher for 8+ years) struggle with the sub-par technology used by their districts. In what ways could technology do a better job of meeting your Special Education needs? Which repetitive tasks could be automated in order to free up your time for more important things? How could student's needs be better addressed with technology? How could technology improve your communication with educators, parents and specialists in special education. Hi Everyone-

Today I created a new ning network called iPod Educators for those interested in networking about podcasting and the use of iPods and related technology. I will make a general forum post here soon, however, I thought I'd share it here first as we have discussed our work in the inclusion setting. I will make a general forum post here soon, however, I thought I'd share it here first as we have discussed our work in the inclusion setting. Podcasting and it's technology can seem daunting. I hope this network will provide education and support for those who feel it is of value to kids and teachers!
Thanks.

They recently added a free on-line service for people searching for free or low-cost accessible computer games suitable for learning or rehabilitative environments.

According to the website, the Accessible Learning through Entertainment and Recreation service provides the following useful information:

* Where to get those games, at low cost, or for free
* What to look for in selecting those games, quickly and with fewer costly mistakes
* How to apply those games to your learning objectives, without a lot of mystery
* Who to go to for free help

"This information will be updated over the course of 2008, especially the growing series of How To articles."

Another resource on the Simply Entertainment/1-129 Software website is a section dedicated to links to 25 highest-rated websites that focus on games that are accessible for people who are blind. Many of the linked websites offer free on-line games.
I recently blogged on my site about Sketchcast, and received an email from a teacher who is using this to create review tutorials for basic math. etc. It is very easy to use and can be embedded in a school site. Does anyone have an other suggestions for help in math particularly for special ed students?
