I'm starting to realize that my full-time co-teaching inclusion model may be unique. I am a special education teacher and I teach in a classroom full-time with a general education teacher. We pre-assess all students for their deficits and strengths. We have leveled groupings for reading, writing and math. We teach lessons using various inclusion teaching models: we co-teach lessons or one teaches and one assists; we split the class in 1/2 and teach the same lesson separately; we teach in small…

We pre-assess all students for their deficits and strengths. We have leveled groupings for reading, writing and math. We teach lessons using various inclusion teaching models: we co-teach lessons or one teaches and one assists; we split the class in 1/2 and teach the same lesson separately; we teach in small leveled groups; and we also provide small group instruction and 1:1 support as needed. While we have another classroom, we tend to use it for all students not just the classified students. What does inclusion look at your school? Having dyslexia makes reading and writing a challenge. When surfing the world wide web you need to be a strong reader and writer to navigate the waves of information that you come across and to make comments along the way. What ideas do you have to assist your students with this learning difficulty?

One issue that came up at our discussion was that some districts (without naming names) do not have the funds to support technology use in special education. Another topic of discussion was the use of technology tools in the classroom that would support diverse learners from least restrictive to most restrictive learning environments.

While some of those involved in the round table discussion were active listeners, I'm sure participants have comments or questions that remain unstated. Feel free to post your thoughts here. A few years ago I discovered this site - at the time I thought, correctly that it would be a great resource for my elementary efl students.
SymbolWorld is designed to have clear easy navigation with large buttons for any links. It is speech enabled by the use of Browsealouda free program "
Also worth checking out: imaginesymbols for a downloadble set of symbol clipart that can be used for non commercial projects
Another site ZLANGO while not specifically for special needs could be a fun site to use - this is the blurb from the site "Zlango has created a new, inspiring icon based language which transforms web and mobile messaging into an expressive, juicy, colorful icon-based experience.
Zlango is a revolutionary, simple and practical language. It’s made up of over 200 icons divided into intuitive and memorable categories. Words, concepts or feelings can be expressed by the different icons. "
First off, do you have a class website? LOL - If you're on classroom 2.0, I hope so! Have you ever thought about how to differentiate it for your students with learning challenges? What would a differentiated site need to include for the students in your class?

My website is called the Collaborative Corner.
