Over 10 years in using Technology in Education, I'm also a multi-media specialist creating the TV studio in my last school District. On a personal note, I am the proud father of 2 young boys w/ another on the way, and have been married for 5 years.
I lead the Tutor/Mentor Connection, based in Chicago. I host a conference every six months and the next will be in Olympia Fields on Nov. 15 and 16. At http://www.tutormentorconference.org you can get details.
I'm trying to build connections with teachers and youth in surburban high schools who might connect with youth and volunteers in inner city programs, using the technology of web 2.0 for those connections.
Take a look at some of the information on my profile to see some of the ideas you might adopt in your teaching and service learning projects.
Thanks for the info. My library uses Follett Circ+ and Catalog+. We have the extra add-ons and right now I am deciding whether to purchase Destiny and switch over or just keep adding on.
I will look into WhyVille. Sounds interesting. I am always on the llokout for constructivist approaches to teaching information literacy. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the comment. I am excited to be in a social network of teachers who are all working on the same problems. It's a great time to share. Thanks for the link to http://animoto.com/!
Thanks for the invite, and the kind comments about my blog. By the way, I'm a graduate of John Marshall Jr./Sr. High School in Milwaukee long, long ago...
...like the blog...might be able to extract ideas for Windows...don't hyperventilate (wife has a cousin who works for Gates and the brother works for Linux...constant conversation
I just checked out the student story casting that you posted on your website. Very Nice!! I'm wondering what your thoughts are about this project now that you've finished it. Would you have done it again the same exact way? How might you have tweaked it? Did the students approach the work differently because of the medium? If so, how?
To be honest David, I have just started a new social network designed to explore content issues as they relate to technology. This type of a posting would be ideal for the new network. It's located at http://www.teachingcontent.ning.com. I'm hoping that you'll consider taking a look at it and perhaps posting some thoughts about this project on the site.
Thanks and even if you are not interested in posting more about the project on the new site, I'd love to learn more about it.
I could not find an e-mail address for you anywhere on these pages or on your Greenfield page. You need to correct the spelling of source. :) You left off the r.
I will be arriving in Milwaukee in the coming week and although I'm not a baseball fan, I sure knew those Sausage Racers were from the Milwaukee Brewers!
Thank you--I'm quite humbled. Oddly enough, while in China, I forget that I'm suffering from the heat. After five summers of working there, it grows on you!
Hi David,
I looked at the website link that you left me, and they're great! I was especially impressed with the Live Newsletter. That is exactly what myself and my teaching partner wanted to do with our classes this year. We spend an inordinate amount of time writing newsletters, then copying them on tons of paper, for a few families to read and throw away. What a waste! I think the novelty of these live newsletters will draw a greater parent audience than our old hard copies could ever do! Thanks again for the tip...
I'm working on setting something up where districts who are not attending NECC can still participate in this promotion if they find out about it through Classroom 2.0 or Twitter since I've been talking about it a lot on these networks. Look for a new discussion link with more details. The assessment comes in both Mac and PC so you could use either. Delete Comment
Thanks, but I work in a "PC World." I hope you saw the post in my blog yesterday where I talked about the site you suggested and linked back to your blog.
Hey there David,
Yes, love 4 technology runs deep. Yes, It is a small world. I went to Forest View, when it was FVHS :( I played college volleyball with someone from your HS, Sue Dodge. Do you know her?
