About Me
I have taught in the public school systems in Florida for 24 years. I started teaching 3rd grade, then 4th in Jacksonville, FL. I took time off and became a stay at home mom until my youngest started 5th grade. By that time, I was living in the Fabulous Florida Keys. I went back to teaching at Key Largo School, a K-8 program. In 1995, when my oldest was graduation from Florida State and my youngest was only a year behind, I went back to grad school. I moved to Tallahassee and completed my master's degree in Elementary Education with specialization in technology.
Upon returning to Key Largo, my principal, Mrs. Frances St.James, offered me the opportunity to become the Technology Resource Teacher for K-8. Key Largo School became a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and in 2001 it was selected as one of 4 schools in the 9 southeastern states to become a part of the Bellsouth Power to Teach grant. As part of the Bellsouth team, I traveled to schools in NC, LA and FL to observe how technology was being integrated in the schools and what the impact was on student learning. I met Sara Armstrong from the George Lucas Foundation and worked with Dr. Ted Hasselbring from the University of Kentucky (a frequent presenter at the Florida Educational Technology Conference). It was a fantastic learning experience.
Now, I am living in Daytona Beach, FL and working at Southwestern Middle School in Deland, FL. I went back to the classroom and am teaching Exploratory Technology to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. We are currently working on the 2007-08 Technology Plan and looking for ways to integrate Web 2.0, Podcasting, etc., into our curriculum to motivate our students and maximize their learning experiences.
I look forward to hearing your ideas. Let's talk!!
