I teach English and Social Studies to Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced English Language Learners at Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, CA. Well over half of our students are English Language Learners, and we use technology extensively with them, including providing home computers and free DSL service to some. If you'd like to learn more about what we do, you can go to the April issue of the Educator's eZine at techlearning.com and read the article "Samuel L. Jackson, My ESL Students, and Me."
Larry, I bumped into your blog while doing an information scan. I knew I recognized your name....please, consider adding my ed tech news and resources blog to your teachers' page.

I just wanted to say how much I've always appreciated your work for EFL/ESL and I've used lots of what you've recommended. Thanks.
I teach teachers in Seoul, Korea and as part of that, have been trying to instill "community" into them and also give them the practical resources that L2 speaking teachers need.
You mentioned karaoke and I've been writing / giving workshops on this for 2 years. Great tool and not just for music! I do stories, podcasts, news reports etc...You can see some at my resource collection site www.ddd.batcave.net You'll need to download the player I use (after much research - this is the best and FREE around) www.karafun.com I have a screencast there to, if others are interested in making karaoke files. www.ksolo.com also has a good site but yeah, I prefer www.singshot.com when refering students.
Or you might come and join some of our discussions on my own ning - eflclassroom.ning.com .
Hi Larry,
Thanks for the comment on the Scientific American article by Dweck. Let me know if you get any comments or questions--I'll be using the article in a teachers' discussion. So far I'm finding that a lot of teachers like her articles a lot, and some strongly dislike them (thinking it's so much ranting about what is fairly simple and obvious). Me--I like Dweck tremendously and continue to learn a lot from her work. Mindset (one of her books) is a straightforward read, a bit popularized, perhaps. Self Theories is a more in-depth look at the topic.

I just wanted to let you know about a new social network site that I have started, http://www.teachingcontent.ning.com. I'm hoping that the site will attract content teachers and we'll be able to discuss how to most effectively use technology for actual teaching and learning within the content areas. While we could say that Classroom 2.0 is focused on the technology, Teaching Content 2.0 will be focused on the content.
I'm very much hoping that you will consider joining this social network site and partnering with us to create high quality dialogue.
Hi Larry,
I am new to using Web 2.0 in the classroom and hope to have my grade 6/7 students using blogs, wikis and our smartboard this year. I love your edublog and am getting some great ideas from it.
Hey Larry,
So sorry about the blockage - and my slowness in reading this. I don't get into Classroom2.0 much anymore. Our network that is starting to work pretty well for student (14+) - come on over and check it out: http://tlgplace.ning.com
Seems like there should be some way to get your students enrolled if they can then participate.

Hey Larry, I know you do a lot w/ sites especially for ESL and I just came across this new one (still in alpha) called Tag Crowd. It is great for visualizing words. Take a look.
I did u are one of three people whose blog I have in my RSS Aggregator so check regularly, Jennifer Dorman and Brian (whose last name escapes me) is another one. I found u all on here so it's been very beneficial.
You can describe me as Chris Haddad, a middle school English teacher from Michigan (use as much or as little of that info as you want). If there's something different you had in mind, let me know.
Hi Larry - wanted to update you on a new site where I'm developing the Implementation Guide for a K-12 Parent Portal. Please check out Parent 2.0 Interactive.
Thanks!
Hi Larry. I was wondering if you have students or educator friends who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
Well, I have giving up the battle of creating a custom blog in Rapid Weaver. My limited understanding of HTML and CSS, combined w/ the RSS feed from my worst nightmare and lack of patience; has persuaded me to use one of the more popular blog tools out there.

Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration to us all and I look forward to reading your posts daily!!!
Larry, have u seen Primary Access it could be a great resource for ESL, you create a digital story and narrate it w/ subtitles and when it narrates it highlights the text (think when singing karokee).
