I am currently a second grade teacher in a suburban district located on the outskirts of Philadelphia. This is my 15th year of teaching. I possess a masters degree with certification in Elementary, Special Education, and Reading Specialist. I have a passion for Language Arts instruction and have begun to explore the depths of online teaching and learning. This year I enrolled in a graduate program to gain certification in E-Learning.
Hello Cathy. There is lots to learn with the new web2.0 tools and this is a wonderful place to start or continue with that learning. Welcome to classroom2.0 I am murcha on twitter
Thanks for the message, Cathy. This is my 5th Ning group and it's truly a great way to connect. I also enjoy the language packs, enabling me/us to set up a French Ning site. We currently have one, called Apprendre 2.0 (=Learning 2.0), set up and run by educators from Europe, Africa and Canada. The world is a small village.
I actually made that picture on my website for a digital multimedia class at FSU. It took me forever because I was new to editing pictures (anything other than cropping and red-eye removal). I did not use Photoshop because I didn't have it. I used a really GREAT program online called fotoflexer. It is so easy to use and you can do tons of great things to it. You can turn your pictures into painting, you can make them look like comic book pages, it's fantastic. I know Photoshop does this as well, but the good thing about fotoflexer is that it's free.
There's another free one that is good called Paint.net. It's a little more advanced and with that a little harder to use but it is also free, which is of course always a good thing.
Thanks for the confidence! I hope I get a job soon!! In order to embed the teacher tube video, I copied the html code and pasted it onto the wiki where video is inserted. Best of luck!
Changing curriculums this year will only make me a better well rounded teacher, I know I have a lot to learn still . I am also going to enroll in a graduate program within the year in reading education so that i will be qualified to teach above and beyond what my bachelors degree allows.. I owuld love to eventually to go to elementary or maybe high school who knows haha
Cathy,
How is the school year going? Do you like 1st grade? Did you do anything special this summer? How is married life- almost 1 year! Time Flies. Well, my district is piloting Literacy by Design- so far so good- I like the READS assessment. Not loving the writing piece of the program. Hope to hear from you soon. I really like this classroom 2.0 - I am exploring it more now and the proteacher community- I love. Talk to you soon Kati
My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham, MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'e-learning and online teaching' group, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:
Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.
Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win a competition for startup funding on ideablob.com. You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.
Feel free to email me back, check out alightlearning.com, anything you like!
With your interest in eLearning and Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.
Hi Cathy! Checking out Classroom 2.0...just wondering how it all works! Would we be starting a "forum" or a "discussion?" Could we do a trial one between the 3 of us and see how it works? (Would we be able to get rid of it later?) ~Amy
