    Thank Brian for the welcoming!
I'm new on this so I'm looking to learn from the experts ...
    Take care :)

Hey Brian, thanks for the welcome from the U.S. I am actually in Boston at the moment and I think you guys call an emergency teacher a substitute teacher.
  • David Kapuler

Far and away one of the best blogs site I have read. Not to mention if u are over in China I am super jealous being a huge fan of asian culture/movies. My wife and I have always dreamed of going to Japan but alas that has never happened. Actually, we were going to goto New Zeland for our honeymoon on a LOTR Tour, but I couldn't convince her that spending time in the Shire would be great ;-)

Hi Brian, the recording didn't have video although we had a whiteboard, tex and audio. I added a link to the youtube video that Yaodong Chen took during the session so that you could see the classroom setup.

    Brian,

Yes, it is Elephant Hill. Guilin was an oddly beautiful place to visit.

Hello Brian, we have had so many interupted days of school, so I hope your school has not finished for the year. Our students have only just finished their videos on a typical day, so when I get the completed movie, could you remind me where I actually upload them too. I have forgotten and I am trying to work through the forest of my emails and work it out. Thanks in advance

    Hi Brian,
Sorry for being rubbish and not getting back to you after you left a comment for me, it has been an unbelievable few months. It is interesting to find someone who has a similar role across the water.
When you do get to Europe in your travels it is a brilliant place and London is a must see, not as nice a Paris, but has a different character.
If you get the chance you need to get out of London and head North to my home town of Newcastle, a stunning city full of people with smiles. Or my current home city of Leeds, with its surrounding hills and country to the West.

Glad the SOL Technology Integration web page at http://www.rockingham.k12.va.us/resources/soltechintegration.htmI helped your teachers. If any of the teachers you work with have files to share, please email me the link of where they are posted online or email me the files so they can help other teachers.

I see you have been to China. Any chance you have pictures in a PowerPoint to help teachers teach 2nd graders about China? If you do have one, create one, I would love to add a link to it online.....

PS I love the show "Chuck" too.

    Hi Brian!!
I am doing Applied ID Project portion of ITMA which is sorta like a thesis...and will be my last class before I put together my portfolio and finish next semester. Very exciting!! Please feel free to ask questions any time.....I will be happy help any way that I can. It is a great program. One of the hardest parts though is feeling isolated when completing assignments......but the online aspect is awesome!! :)
  • Beth

No worries coming up with an idea for the Applied ID project....since you are already a Tech Resource teacher ......you are doing many interesting projects, I'm sure. I am learning to use an Interwrite Pad, planning a training, and posting on a web blog. One of my friends who is an ITRT is doing a project creating Jing screencasts and creating a web blog using Wordpress. You will do great!! Feel free to check in anytime!! Take care!

The wiki has been an awesome resource for families. There has been high participation at home as students use the study links and families post messages or use the social networking aspect to it. At school the wiki is our jump off for any computer based assignment. The one thing I havent had time to keep up with is the "student of the week", where I was hoping to have that student design their own page for the week. Overall, we are very please and 'sold' on Wetpaint as a host.

    Hey Brian:
Nice to hear from a fellow IT teacher. Schools here are a lot different then in Canada. I can't comment on the schools in the U.S.
I bet the school you saw in london was very old. They really have a lot of character and are quite beautiful. Do you teach in the elementary system?
    Gina

    Hi Brian,
Thanks for the 'welcome to classroom 2.0' message. So you will get to see our beautiful country on the Amazing Race. Fame at last!! We might even get more teacher exchanges as a result.
We are back to front to the USA. Summer is finally here. End of school year in 7 weeks and 3 days (not that I am counting) and we are a day ahead of you on the calendar.
We also don't have tech teachers in most elementary nor middle schools. This is in spite of each classroom having 13 computers and a smart board at my school. Guess we are all supposed to be tech teachers! If you want any comparisons between the USA and NZ just ask.
Love your China pictures. Stay in touch.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the welcome. I have been 'overseas' for 15 years now and have done a wide number of things. Teaching credentials is something I have in my back pocket, so to speak, and decided to get back in the classroom. I love teaching. It is all about the students.

I am keenly interested in Web 2.0 in the classroom. Specifically, how I can shape the students' use of social networking for learning. So far, they use it as a diversion.
  • Jack Etter

Thanks Brian.... I work in aa middle school and have the most increadible teachers and students to work with.... I am always looking for schools that want to coolaborate on projects either online or through video conferencing.... I will be in touch...
  • Vivek Sharma

Thanks Brian, teachers ARE the same world over. I am here as a student, to learn the advances in the ICT for the teachers.

Thanks for the welcome Brian! Sorry the blog comment didn't go through. I do have comment moderation on, but no reason it shouldn't work. I've taken off the comment moderation if you'd like to try again. Thanks! Look forward to collaborating here.
  • Mark Cruthers

    Hi Brian,

You could talk to them about using web based power point presentions platform. So if they use power points, or want their students to see a lesson later later that they could convert to power point you could use authorstream or Wiziq's platforms
  • Bryan SCHOLES

Hi Brian - thanks for the welcome. I am currently in a motel and don't have regular access to the Internet but will hopefully become more involved with this group as time goes on. I have renounced Facebook as a colossal time waster, except for finding old friends, and Twitter is even worse. I'm more of a one-on-one email kind of guy. I'm hoping Classroom 2.0 will give me a better and more meaningful social networking experience. Cheers, Bryan

    Hi Brian,
I was in London last month- great place! I had to ask someone what mind the gap meant- it was all over the place. Funny I thought they were promoting book , LOL!
    Nice to meet you.
  • Cindy Gajus

Hi Brian we had a tablet meeting and that day we were given information about classroom 2.0 It appears to be a great place for resources and to collaborate with other teachers. I bet you really miss the Bengals this year or perhaps you were a Browns fan!
  • Vivian Mat

    hi brian,
great! it's one of the most viewed videos in teachertube and i absolutely loved it and agreed with it 100% that's why i bookmarked it. see you later.
  • David Robb

Thanks for welcoming me. Good to be here for some networking.
  • Vivek Sharma

    Hi Brian,
Yes, Teachers are the same the world over!
  • Vivian Mat

    hi Brian,
that was really surprising. would love to catch up. viviana
  • Joanna Huang

    Hi, Brian,

Thanks for the friendly welcome. I am only a beginning learner in using technology. Looking forward to learning together with everyone through Classroom 2.0, so that I can improve my language teaching strategies. :)
  • Cindy Gajus

Hi Brian, What did you think about the game last week. Bengals defeated the Browns it was ugly! I will be attending the game this Sunday and I hope a repeat performance can happen. Never, ever, give up on the Bengals! Even though right now you can buy anything with the Bengal logo on it for at least 50% off.
  • Alyshia Olsen

    Hi Brian,

I'm sending out messages to everyone I know right now, and this classroom20 network is no exception. (I've also sent this out on other Ning networks you may be a part of.) My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham,MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' groun, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:

Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.

Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.

Feel free to email me back, check out alightlearning.com, anything you like!

    Thanks,

    Alyshia Olsen

    Hi Brian,

With your work in Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.
  • Cindy Gajus

Well two in a row!!! Who is laughing now? The parking lots looked barren and everywhere around you empty seats are found. Oh well, maybe next year. My whole family went to the game and we left after the third quarter.
  • Chris Llewellyn

Great stuff Brian. Glad you've enjoyed London. I haven't been back to Fortnums since it was refitted, but have heard good things about it.

Impressive photos! Are you based in China at the mo?
  • GG

Hi Brian, Thanks for your message. I agree, students with dyslexia are a joy to teach!
  • Rob

Hello Brian, very new to all this so you may not see that much of me at the moment. Norfolk ( UK ) actually :)
  • Rob

In that case, thankyou! I am pretty new to teaching using online tech stuff and have really immersed myself into trying to learn as much as possible about it all - my head is spinning! I have recently got into reading blogs and am trying to find which blog reader is best and how it all works.
  • Matthew Stark

Brain are you still looking for schools to do a day in the life video. I am in Alaska and could help you out. I do not teach upper elem, but lower, but I might be able to find some to help you. Let me know.
  • Jack

Hi Brian. I was wondering if you and your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
  • David Kapuler

Hey Brian, I am testing out a new web design app, Rapid Web Design, and blogged on your blog.

Thank you Brian for your warm welcome! Is that the Great Wall behind you?
  • Chris Fray

Nice pic back, Brian! We both posted pics on the Great Wall and we've both been District Teachers of the Year (2008) Congrats! Hope we'll chat more in the future.... Chris
  • Brian Yearling

Finishing was great, but I'll tell you, being surrounded by people who are constantly throwing new ideas and tools at you cannot be replicated. I am envious of that part of you still being in the program; not envious of the projects and homework. Stick with it, you'll make it through and it will definitely be worth it.

What an honor, that some people do know Belgium :-) Always welcome for some Belgian Fries, chocolates, beers,...
I'm reading the variuos blog posts of the last few weeks. Classroom 2.0 is a vibrant teacher-community.
Here in Belgium technology is finding finally its way in some classes and schools...!
  • David Kapuler

I left the same comment for Larry F as I hold both your blogs in high regards so don't feel bad ;-)

Well, I have giving up the battle of creating a custom blog in Rapid Weaver. My limited understanding of HTML and CSS, combined w/ the RSS feed from my worst nightmare and lack of patience; has persuaded me to use one of the more popular blog tools out there.

    http://cyber-kap.blogspot.com/

If you scroll down you will see my fav blog post.

Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration to us all and I look forward to reading your posts daily!!!

It's a great life style... it still a busy busy place, with lots going on to keep you entertained and professionally challenged! As you say, China is a different story... very different indeed.
  • Ava Weeks

Thanks Brian! I'll check it out.
  • Jonah Salsich

    Thanks Brian,
I noticed your comment right after I changed my photo! I bought one of the mini "kite-trains" in Beijing. I'm going to try it out with my students this month. I'm trying to scrape together plane fare to teach in China (near Qingdao) this summer, but times are tough.
  • Tom Daccord

Hi Brian, I think you'd be a great addition to the NCSS Community Network: http://ncssnetwork.ning.com/ Hope you'll join!

Hello Brian --thanks for the note --yes China is, was, a wonderland for me...Among other things I met my wife there... I miss it! However, I'm going back for a loong visit this summer --where did you live and work when you were there?
